Wednesday, April 11, 2018 CASE STUDY: UNICOL Unicol We arranged a meeting with the CEO and MD to find out how we can support this company. During a walkabout, it became clear, that the best way forward was to carry out a comprehensive audit which will provide all the information the CEO and MD needed. The Management of SHEF Rating Evaluation provides an assessment of performance together with a measure of compliance with current legislation. The Rating System conforms to the subject BS EN ISO 14001 and HS(G)65. During the two day audit, we assessed practices against current legislation and interviewed several staff. We then presented our findings and were appointed with immediate effect to be their Health and Safety Advisor. A new Health and Safety Management System was introduced, which included e.g. policies, fire assessment, machine specific risk assessments, method statement, RIDDOR etc. followed up a Highfield health and safety Level 2 training for all staff and management and an IOSH Managing safely training course for some key members of staff. Since then we regularly advise and guide directors, managers and staff on any health and safety issues they may have, attend their annual board meeting and sit in their employees’ health and safety consultation meetings, which is held three or four times per year. Their health and safety system is monitored and maintained by both their In-house Health and Safety Officer and us, HRS Management, their Outsourced Health and Safety Advisor. Testimonial Unicol Engineering have been supported by HRS management for nearly four years, they have guided us through the maze of H & S legislation with tenacity and professionalism. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services to others, particularly SME’s who don’t require the services of a permanent in house specialist but still wish to deliver a safe working environment for both employees and visitors alike.
